Teach some telephone manners to this woman!

Woman calls an old man and the driver picks the call.

Woman: Hello

Driver: Hello

Woman: Is my boss's father there?

Driver doesn't reply, but shouts from there itself, "sir, sir, call for you!"

Old man: Hello

Woman: Hello sir, it's me!

Old man: Oh, is that you? I thought some important call and came running!

Woman: Yes sir. It's me, the driver didn't even ask who was on the call and gave it to you!

Old man: (sounds miffed) You don't have manners to talk in the phone!

Woman: (confused) What?!

Old man: You don't have proper manners to talk over the phone. When you call a person, you should say who you are first...

Woman: If the driver had asked who it is, I would have told him then itself.

Old man: That's not the manners. You were not given proper manners. You should first tell who you are, talk to my driver, enquire about his family...

Woman: (miffed) Maybe culture difference!

Old man: No, I have seen many others from your place, I have worked with them. All cultures are same, there's no difference...

Woman: (shocked) Oh!

Woman tries to argue, but the old man keeps shouting from the other side...

Old man: I know your character. You purposefully didn't talk to my driver. If you had a good character and good manners you would have done that...

Woman thinks, "oh, man! Am I a customer service agent who is calling to sell any product to say, 'Good morning sir. I'm so and so, calling you from the State Bank of India/ ICICI Bank/Union Bank/blah blah blah... Is it the right time to talk to you blah blah blah?'"

The old man shifts the topic from manners to character and the argument continues...

Ah, how lucky to marry again and again!

How many of us are lucky enough to get married twice? That too with the same person?! Not many, right? But my hubby's younger brother Rahul Rajan is very lucky. He got married to his childhood sweetheart Deepika Ramachandran not once, but twice.
He married her secretly on 25.04.2012 in a temple and then again in the public on 01.12.2013. Both completed three years of public married life and in another four months will be completing five years of secret married life. Wishing them all the best for their life of lies!

In Love - Kamala Das

In Love
- Kamala Das

O what does the burning mouth
Of sun, burning in today’s,
Sky, remind me….oh, yes, his
Mouth, and….his limbs like pale and
Carnivorous plants reaching
out for me, and the sad lie
of my unending lust.
Where is room, excuse or even
Need for love, for, isn’t each
Embrace a complete thing a finished
Jigsaw, when mouth on mouth, i lie,
Ignoring my poor moody mind
While pleasure, with deliberate gaeity
Trumpets harshly into the silence of
the room… At noon
I watch the sleek crows flying
Like poison on wings-and at
Night, from behind the Burdwan
Road, the corpse-bearers cry ‘Bol,
Hari Bol’ , a strange lacing
For moonless nights, while I walk
The verandah sleepless, a
Million questions awake in
Me, and all about him, and
This skin-communicated
Thing that I dare not yet in
His presence call our love.

Words - Kamala Das

Words
- Kamala Das

All round me are words, and words and words,
They grow on me like leaves, they never
Seem to stop their slow growing
From within... But I tell my self, words
Are a nuisance, beware of them, they
Can be so many things, a
Chasm where running feet must pause, to
Look, a sea with paralyzing waves,
A blast of burning air or,
A knife most willing to cut your best
Friend's throat... Words are a nuisance, but.
They grow on me like leaves ona tree,
They never seem to stop their coming,
From a silence, somewhere deep within...

Winter - Kamala Das

Winter
- Kamala Das

It smelt of new rains and of tender
Shoots of plants- and its warmth was the warmth
Of earth groping for roots… even my
Soul, I thought, must send its roots somewhere
And, I loved his body without shame,
On winter evenings as cold winds
Chuckled against the white window-panes.
