Bad chief minister of India? Google says Pinarayi Vijayan

Google searches have time and again embarrassed the most unsuspecting of people and now the search giant's algorithm has made Pinarayi Vijayan its latest victim.

It surely is not one of the best times for Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who has been embroiled in a prolonged tussle with right-wing outfits over the Sabarimala temple. The latest trouble, however, comes from the Internet and not his political opponents.

Google searches have time and again embarrassed the most unsuspecting of people and now the search giant's algorithm has made Pinarayi Vijayan its latest victim.

When one looks up 'bad chief minister' on the Google search bar, the search engine throws up the Wikipedia page of Vijayan.

On Monday, Google recorded over 20,000 searches on the keyword 'bad chief minister'.

While the Kerala chief minister's supporters smell the Opposition's hand behind this strange happening, it is not doing Vijayan's image any good amid the whole Sabarimala row.

Vijayan has made his government's stand clear that they will implement the Supreme Court order to allow women on menstruating age to enter the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala. This has earned the chief minister the ire of commoners, temple authorities, politicians and social activists alike in both Kerala and other parts of the country.

The chief minister has stayed firm on his resolve for several months and managed to get the Kerala Police to assist two women below 50 years to enter the revered temple on January 2.

It soon triggered widespread protests and a major law and order crisis across the state resulting in one death, several cases of injury and over 5,500 people being arrested.

The chain of incidents is bound to have an impact on Vijayan's image.

Google's algorithm works in ways such that recently a simple search for the word 'idiot', showed results of US President Donald Trump.

In another instance, search results for 'Top 10 criminals' showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's images along with the likes of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Libyan leader Gaddafi.
